Q: Does intention/expectation change as we transform?  Part of me thinks that they cannot help but change as we shift.  Or do we only see them differently?  Maybe it is that I have let go of the "agenda" that I didn't realize I was carrying.  It still rears its ugly little head but now I can see it so my relationship to it has changed.

A: First, thank you for your insightful question.  It is interesting that you used "intention/expectation" in your email.  I had never thought to address this topic before and it is extremely important to make a distinction between our expectations and our intentions, as they certainly are NOT the same thing.

First, lets cover Expectation.  Just as unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment and resentment in our interpersonal relationships, they also lead to those same experiences in our inner-personal relationship (perhaps the most important relationship we have).  So just as we should try to shed expectation and cultivate agreements with those around us, fostering communication and understanding, we must also do this within ourselves.  For example, I AGREE within myself that I will have my book started and nearer to publication by this time next year.  I do not subconsciously, magically EXPECT it to happen but consciously AGREE to this via my thoughts, speak it aloud to those whom I trust and begin the process of writing it, moving in the direction of completion.  This process of agreement leads to fulfillment as opposed to disappointment and self-loathing or guilt.

Now let us look at Intention.  As you well know, the universe is ever changing.  Nothing is static and nothing is permanent.  When we look forward toward a destination or goal during our process of GOAL ORIENTEERING™ we should always understand that though we see the distant place where we would like to be on the map of our planned route of change, we cannot truly know the terrain that we will cross or the encounters that will come before us during our journey.  Just as water finds the path of least resistance and can at the same time fracture concrete, we should be adaptable to the ever-changing conditions of our process and not become stagnant within ourselves or EXPECT that our intention is as fixed as our gaze.  Remember that as you attain certain short-term victories or goals, your true purpose / actualization will become clearer and this will shift your perceptions.  In this way it is beneficial for your intention to shift with that insight.  So in short, yes, your intention will shift as your vision and sense of purpose materialize before you.
